Brave New Alps

La città negata

2010

The denied city, … conceived according to the interests of the rulers, … erases diversity, … represses dissent, … declares war to what is common in favour … of the capital.

The anarchists of La Riottosa Squat, Florence 2010

For one day Brave New Alps join the illegal vendors working in Florence’s historical centre in order to give away a series of posters – hand-printed on original Florentine paper – bearing the title of an anarchist wall journal found in the streets of the San Frediano quarter.

The action, for which Brave New Alps have illegaly occupied public ground, is a reflection on the expulsion of artisans’ shops from the historical centre of the city as one of the consequences of Florence’s commercialisation and museification.

The project was developed as a contribution to the exhibition Legal Disagreements/Disaccordi Legali , curated by Matteo Cavalleri and Luisa Lorenza Corna for Millepiani . It is on show at the Villa Romana in Florence from the 26th september to the 31st october 2010.

Special thanks to Sandro Berra and Daniele Facchin from the Tipoteca Italiana for the support in printing the posters.
